Officials urge scrutiny of Suffolk County Water Authority well plan; public hearing set Aug. 19

Tom said there is a public hearing in Westhampton on August 19 and that both Riverhead and Southold are holding hearings as well. He urged that the environmental review be made available, noting concerns that modeling alone may not predict real‑world impacts on Southampton's aquifer. "There is a public hearing about that plan in Westhampton," he said, and asked that the town make the environmental impact statement available to the public.
Board members noted the modeling issues and the risk of overnight usage and asked staff to coordinate with neighboring towns and community advisory councils to ensure residents can weigh in. No binding action was taken; the item was announced so residents could prepare comments for the county hearings.
