Flatonia ISD approves Pace Protection security agreement; district to use safety grant funds

Trustees approved a comprehensive services agreement with Pace Protection to manage campus gates, surveillance cameras and key-card readers using new AI features. Superintendent Chris Sodek said the upgrade will allow a lockdown to be initiated by any staff member with super-admin permissions and provide up to 10 hours of controlled entry if the internet is disrupted. The board approved the agreement and directed staff to fund it initially with safety grant dollars.
Business Manager Rodney Stryk told trustees the ongoing cost would be about $1,000 per month and that the safety grant account used to cover initial costs has a balance the transcript records as approximately $100,000. Trustees also noted that staff will continue daily door checks and log them in the reporting system. Trustee Dan Sullivan moved approval; Trustee LaVerne Dornak seconded and the motion passed 4-0 (at the time of the vote).
