During public comment, Brian Barlow urged the council to address several neighborhood-safety and traffic issues.
Barlow said crosswalk markings near Holland High School on Van Raalte are nearly gone and that a stop sign at 22nd Street is obscured by trees; he reported having observed multiple vehicles run the sign. He suggested painting clearer road markings and said residents fear parking pressure from a forthcoming apartment at the end of 8th Street. Barlow also called attention to traffic backups on Highway 31 between 16th and James and suggested staff review signal timing. Barlow offered his experience as a private yacht captain to assist on marina planning related to the cruise-ship marina proposal.
Councilmembers acknowledged the items and staff will follow up on painting and traffic-timing questions in subsequent administrative work.
