The Holland City Council voted to set a public hearing on Aug. 19 for a first amendment to the brownfield plan for 467 Ottawa Avenue, a redevelopment project proposed by a private developer in partnership with Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity and Jubilee Ministries.
City staff told the council the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority has recommended the amendment and that the earlier brownfield approval (July 2024) anticipated a later amendment to facilitate the current residential development. Staff said the project includes 11 ownership units, some to be developed with Habitat and some with Jubilee, and that the purpose of setting a public hearing is to present the full project and take public comment before final council action. Van Beek summarized the staff recommendation: “the action that we're recommending tonight is just to set the public hearing.”
Councilmember Corbin moved to set the public hearing; Mary Keane supported the motion. A roll-call vote was taken and recorded affirmative responses; the motion carried. The public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 19, when the council will consider the brownfield amendment and hear public comment on the full redevelopment plan.
