Gainesville ISD reports enrollment growth, smooth start to school year

Superintendent Dr. Des Stewart reported to the board that district enrollment stood at 3,043 students and that first-day enrollment had increased by 101 students compared with last year (first-day totals: 2,796 last year vs. 2,897 this year). He said the first day of school was Aug. 7 and described it as the smoothest start in his seven years at Gainesville ISD.
Dr. Stewart also summarized recent staff events: the district convocation on Aug. 2 (keynote speaker Dave Davlin) and a Back-to-School Bash on Aug. 5 sponsored in part by local businesses. The updates were provided as part of the superintendent’s report and required no board action.
