Board tables selection of food service management vendor until Texas Department of Agriculture approval

Assistant Superintendent LeighAnn Goodwin told trustees the district's five-year contract with Southwest Foods ends in June 2026 and state rules require an RFP for services; the district completed its bidding and rubric process but had not yet received Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) approval for the recommended provider. Goodwin said, "We have not as of today received the confirmation," and recommended tabling the vendor selection until the April board meeting. The board approved tabling the item 5–0 with two absences.
Goodwin explained the new contract would be one year with annual extension options up to five years after TDA approval, and that Southwest Foods had operated under the current contract with extensions over the past five years. The board did not name a recommended vendor in open session due to the pending TDA step.
