Gatesville ISD to partner with Hill College to meet state college-prep course requirements for seniors

Liz Shoaf, high-school principal, presented an MOU with Hill College intended to meet Texas Education Code 28.014 requirements for offering college-preparatory math and English to 12th-grade students who are not yet college-ready. Shoaf explained that Hill College offers TEA-approved curriculum and that the partnership will permit use of standardized course codes counting toward the district’s CCMR (College, Career, and Military Readiness) goals.
Shoaf said these courses help students avoid remedial coursework after high school and provide additional opportunities to meet TSIA requirements; the board approved the MOU unanimously (motion by Calvin Ford, seconded by Linda Maxwell). The presentation noted previous partnerships (CTC and Texas College Bridge) no longer met TEA standards, prompting this change.
