GORDON ISD reviews proposed 2026-27 budget; CBO outlines estimated tax impact

GORDON ISD Chief Business Officer Hendrickson presented the proposed fiscal year 2026–27 budget and the required taxpayer impact statement during the board’s June 17 budget workshop. Hendrickson cited Texas Government Code Section 551.043(c) in providing public notice and walked trustees through preliminary estimates for a median-valued homestead: in Palo Pinto County, the FY2025–26 median value was shown at $175,800 with a $0.9919 tax rate (estimated bill $1,743.76); the district’s FY2026–27 estimate lists a median value of $191,660 with a $1.0844 rate (estimated bill $2,078.36). The statement also listed Erath County estimates (FY2025–26 median $245,191, estimated bill $2,432.05; FY2026–27 estimate median $359,455, estimated bill $3,897.93) and noted the figures are preliminary.
Hendrickson provided June updates on the proposal and reminded the board that the figures could change before final adoption, saying in the meeting record, "As required by Texas Government Code Section 551.043(c), notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-2027." Trustees did not take a final vote on the tax rate at this meeting; the board retained authority to amend the proposed budget and tax rate prior to final adoption. The board’s next steps include continued review of the proposed budget and scheduling any required public hearings as the timeline to adopt a final budget proceeds.
