Fire Chief Mike Long presented the department’s monthly and annual activity during the Jan. 21 meeting, reporting 183 calls for service in December — 170 medical and 13 fire — and an annual total of 2,082 calls (1,789 medical; 296 fire), down seven calls from 2023. Chief Long said the department raised approximately $150,000 in grant funding and outside donations in 2024 and is on track to add two new paramedics and has four new hires enrolled in EMT school.
Chief Long also noted changes to officer staffing — one new lieutenant added and a second planned — and said the Paid‑on‑Call and cadet programs are growing. He cautioned residents about a spike in respiratory illnesses and recommended that immune‑compromised residents take precautions in public.
