Gatesville ISD reports sharp drop in SHARS reimbursements; opts out for 2025–26

LeighAnn Goodwin, assistant superintendent of finance, told the board the district’s final FY25 SHARS (Special Education Medicaid Administrative Outreach/School Health) cost report produced a $15,548 settle-up payment. Total reimbursements for FY25 amounted to $103,367, well short of the $300,000 the district had budgeted.
Goodwin told trustees that SHARS reimbursement opportunities have tightened and that the district "opted out of SHARS for the 25/26 school year and did not budget for any revenues from the program." She said the district had expected a larger settle-up (initially anticipating $117,548) and noted a pending disagreement over an FY24 settle-up of about $28,000 that remains unresolved.
Board members were told the shift represents a significant revenue reduction compared with earlier years when SHARS earnings were as much as $700,000 (FY21/22).
