Commission thanks retiring public servants, Red Cross honors Fire Department

Patty Duckworth, executive director of the American Red Cross Northeast Georgia chapter, presented the Good Neighbor Award to the Walton County Fire Department for partnership work including a "Sound the Alarm" event. "Together, our teams went door to door in the community installing 55 free smoke detectors and ... throughout the year the Walton County Fire Department has continued their important work, installing an additional 40 smoke detectors," Duckworth said, citing a combined total of 95 smoke alarms installed. Commissioners thanked employees and volunteers and noted the public‑safety value of the partnership.
