Steward ESD 220 approves $16,000 modules and up to $30,000 roof repairs after facilities review

The Steward Elementary School District No. 220 board voted June 17 to replace four fire-alarm communication modules at a cost of $16,000 with equipment and services to be provided by Allegiant. The motion, made by Bethany Drendel and seconded by Jen Kraemer, passed by roll-call vote with all ayes.
Separately, Tim Bruns of Bruns Construction inspected the flat roof and recommended maintenance and re‑caulking of a connection between the new building and the gym. The board authorized spending up to $30,000 for roof repairs after consultation with the district architect (motion by Vicki Maertz, seconded by Jen Kraemer; roll call: all ayes). The board also noted a septic backup into the kitchen; Rochelle Vault will inspect the system and the board will seek a second opinion if needed.
