Volunteer Jim Shlogo (speaker 14), a retired utility-line distribution professional, described his experience and recommended asking the street-light provider (Mississippi Power) to show a grid map comparing lights installed to lights the city is billed for, examine wattage differences and identify opportunities for negotiated savings or rate adjustments. "If we're paying for 100 and there's 50... that's money we're just throwing down the drain," Shlogo said. The alderman said the initial group will include himself, Mr. Shlogo and a finance volunteer (Keith Clark) and that they may expand the review citywide after preliminary findings.
No formal vote was required to receive the report and form the task force; members framed it as an informational item and pledged to return findings and recommendations to council.
