Hays CISD board approves personnel appointments and moves to terminate multiple probationary teachers

The HAYS CISD Board of Trustees on April 27 approved the Superintendent’s recommendations to contractually employ Joe Mitchell as Principal of Live Oak Academy and Sonya Tannreuther as Assistant Principal at McCormick Middle School. Board President Byron Severance moved the appointments; the motion passed unanimously 7-0.
Chief Human Resources Officer Christina Courson presented recommendations to terminate a list of probationary teachers and proposed termination of contract teachers for good cause. The board voted to accept the superintendent’s recommendations on the probationary terminations by a 7-0 vote. On the good-cause termination involving Patricia Evans, Trustee Esperanza Orosco stated she would abstain due to a personal connection; that motion passed 6-0-1. A later recommendation to propose termination for Renee Kelso was approved 7-0. The public forum recorded comments from Krissie Farmer regarding Kelso’s nonrenewal.
