Rec board leader asks Steger trustees for bylaws and permission to expand wrestling program

During the public-comment portion of the Feb. 3 meeting, local recreation organizer David Mendez Jr. asked trustees for written bylaws and clearer direction on his role running youth sports programs.
"I am here to request for some by-laws for my sports programs to get some clarification on what my role is," Mendez said, adding the Rec Board has experienced "some small bumps in the road" and that wrestling had attracted interest that might reduce participation costs if supported by the village.
Village Administrator Mary Jo Seehausen suggested Mendez meet with her to get direction and noted that the Recreation Department is governed by village ordinance rather than an internal by-laws code. Trustee Stewart said he recalled bylaws from his time leading the Rec Board and recommended contacting former board members Tom Dreixler and Kathy Briggs to search archived documents; Trustee Perchinski said the Rec Board would review and update any bylaws before bringing them back to the Village Board for approval.
The exchange left a clear next step: the administrator will meet with the recreation leader and staff will pursue any existing bylaws and a formal update for board consideration.
