Recreation staff presented two surveys that will inform fall programming and the city’s master-plan work. For adult sports, staff said they reached about 8,000 contacts and received 72 responses; softball, pickleball and basketball were the most requested activities and 54% of respondents live in the city.
"We survey out of emails 8,000 about 8,000 people, and on social media as well, and with 72 responses from those," Stewart said while summarizing the sports-center outreach. Staff said most respondents preferred leisure play and league formats; the department plans to pilot 3-on-3 basketball and softball this fall and test a pickleball league.
Staff also summarized senior-center survey results. From approximately 4,000 senior-center members (nonresident subset), staff reported 78 responses: the largest age cohort was 70–79 and 63% of respondents said they visit weekly. "These 2 surveys were part of pretty much our master plan," staff said, noting the results will inform future programming and potential decisions about charging nonresident participants. Councilmembers asked staff to return with further analysis of nonresident fees and potential revenue implications.
