Hondo ISD board approves superintendent contract, grants hiring authority and approves personnel contracts after closed session

The Hondo Independent School District Board approved several personnel actions at its March 23 meeting. The board voted to approve Superintendent Rose Mary Mares' contract as discussed at the Feb. 9 meeting; Trustee Carey Frazier moved to approve and Trustee Ricky Ruiz seconded. The motion passed with recorded votes in favor.
Trustees also granted the superintendent year-round hiring authority after a motion from Trustee Craig Luedke and second from Philip Rothe. Later in the meeting the board entered closed session at 7:28 p.m. under the Texas Open Meetings Act (Tex. Govt. Code Sec. 551.071 and 551.074). After exiting closed session at 9:24 p.m., the board voted to approve contract recommendations for certified administrators, counselors, special education staff and other contracted professional employees not paid on regular salary schedules; Trustee Carey Frazier moved approval and Trustee Joel Gonzales seconded. The final vote on those recommendations recorded seven trustees voting in favor.
