Three-year safety audit praises HILLSBORO ISD safety, recommends tech, signage and fencing upgrades

The HILLSBORO ISD School Safety and Security Committee on June 11 reviewed a May 11, 2026 three-year safety audit conducted by Steve Adcock of Small School Safety LLC. Adcock told the committee the district "is in compliance with the Emergency Operations Plan, has a positive and strong student climate, & a high district attendance rate shows that our students feel safe."
The auditor identified several areas for improvement including adding a special-education administrator to the committee, updating the district technology plan and the phone system to ensure reliable 911 calls, and increased use of the Sentinel documentation system. The report also included facility recommendations — such as additional fencing at the high school (HIS) and junior high (HJH) and signage updates — which the district said it is already addressing. The audit presentation was provided to the board on June 8, 2026.
