Commissioners approve conservation easement for 8.5-acre Stilson parcel to safeguard wildlife movement

Public Works Project Manager Chris Colligan presented a conservation easement for an 8.5-acre county-owned parcel at Stilson. The easement was described as intended to facilitate wildlife movement and provide certainty for future park design.
Multiple members of the public spoke in person and via Zoom, including Ross MacIntyre, Jenny Fitzgerald, Renee Seidler and Lorna Miller. County staff and the county attorney answered questions. Commissioner Wes Gardner moved and Commissioner Natalia Macker seconded approval of the Stilson Open Space Easement with language excluding permanent trails or pathways other than a mowed Nordic skiing course; the motion passed 4-0.
The minutes identify the parcel by Parcel ID #22-41-1723-4-10-003 and state that the easement permanently restricts future uses except as explicitly allowed for open play fields and park amenities.
