At the start of the Jan. 12 meeting the board heard brief celebrations and recognitions. Jenny Henricks recognized School Board Students of the Month from each campus. Maegan McNeely, principal at O.P. Norman Jr. High School, spotlighted junior-high theater students who won first place in a UIL One Act Play contest and presented an excerpt from their award-winning performance of "Alice in Wonderland." McNeely said the students "treated us to a wonderful excerpt from their play."
Amy Keith presented National Board Certification pins to Mollie Kasper and Chef Gorrell and described National Board Certification as a prestigious, voluntary advanced credential widely considered the "gold standard" in K–12 education. The recognitions were part of School Board Recognition Month activities and a certificate presentation to the trustees.
