Irving ISD board recognizes teachers, staff and students for state-level achievements
Summary
Trustees honored Teacher of the Month Olytuyin Makinide, Employee of the Month Jamica Servin and Guest Educator Sonia Jacinto and noted multiple student accomplishments including All‑State musicians and CTE students advancing to state competitions.
At the March 9 meeting trustees recognized district employees and students for recent accomplishments.
Trustee Nuzhat Hye named Olytuyin Makinide, a science teacher at SRC, as Teacher of the Month. Mary Richarte recognized Jamica Servin, secretary at Barton Elementary School, as Employee of the Month, and Tom Robles recognized Sonia Jacinto, nominated by Nimitz High School, as Guest Educator of the Month. The board also noted that students advanced to State Academic Decathlon competitions, qualified in wrestling, earned All‑State music honors, succeeded in the Spanish Spelling Bee, and that Nimitz Cheer won a national title.
Additionally the board highlighted that Career and Technical Education (CTE) students advanced to state competitions in HOSA, FCCLA and SkillsUSA and noted a 2025 AP Art and Design Exhibit winner among district students. These recognitions were presented without objection and form part of the meeting's ceremonial agenda.
