President touts ratepayer protection pledge for data-center power costs

The President urged governors and industry leaders to back a new plan he described as a "ratepayer protection pledge" under which large technology companies would fund or build the energy infrastructure their data centers require. "Under this groundbreaking plan, America's largest tech companies have formally committed to fund or build all energy infrastructure required to meet the demand they are placing on the grid," he said.
He said the pledge has attracted broad support, asserting that "more than 220 utilities, tech companies, state governments, and other partners have signed our ratepayer protection pledge" and claiming the plan is keeping electricity rates in check for most Americans. The President tied the proposal to economic development benefits from data centers, saying communities receive investment and job opportunities when firms build local infrastructure.
