Alderman launches Ward 3 streetlight review task force to curb rising costs

Alderman Giuffria told the board he proposed a Ward 3 streetlight review task force after seeing last year's budgeted $350,000 for streetlights already exceeded and next year potentially at $400,000. The task force aims to work with Mississippi Power and other providers to map lights, confirm what the city is paying for, and identify efficiencies such as retrofits to LED fixtures.
Local volunteer Jim Shlogo, a retired Entergy line-distribution manager with 35 years of utility experience, volunteered to assist. As Shlogo said, he can interface with providers to confirm counts, wattages and rates. The alderman said the task force will begin in Ward 3, with a view to scale citywide if meaningful savings are found.
