Resident urges immediate action on decades-long flooding; village says engineers are studying basin

A resident told the Bensenville Village Board on April 28 that homeowners in parts of the village have endured recurring basement flooding for decades and presented a petition filed with the clerk asking for immediate action. "This is not just about water," Juan Bailon said, describing years of "frustration, stress, and feeling unheard" and asking for "an immediate on-site inspection, a formal engineering assessment, and a clear writing timeline for a permanent solution." He said signatures were submitted to the clerk on April 24, 2026.
Village staff member Joe Caracci responded that the village has received the petition and is already working on the basin. "We actually, in October 2025, executed a contract with Strand and Associates to look at the basin that is in that area," Caracci said, describing the Branninger Mohawk subdivision basin and noting four subbasins are being analyzed. He said the village will prioritize projects based on available funding and that some issues are localized low spots that may not be addressable by the basin project alone.
