Kemp Independent School District trustees voted unanimously Aug. 19 to set the district’s 2024–2025 tax rate at $0.9744 per $100 of taxable value, with $0.7549 earmarked for maintenance and operations and $0.2195 for debt service.
Trustee Matt Gross moved to approve the resolution, saying in the motion text, “On this date, we, the Board of Trustees of the Kemp Independent School District, hereby levy or set the tax rates on $100 valuation for the District for the tax year 2024 at a total tax rate of $0.9744… $0.7549 for the purpose of maintenance and operations, and $0.2195 for the purpose of payment of principal and interest on debts.” Trustee Regina Kiser seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Board documents included calculations showing the adopted rate “will effectively be raised by 16.13 percent and will raise taxes for Maintenance and Operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $161.29.” The action was taken pursuant to Policy CCG(LEGAL): Local revenue sources — ad valorem taxes, as noted in the meeting materials.
The board did not record further debate or dissent in the minutes. Next steps for taxpayers — including deadlines for payment or appeals — were not specified in the minutes.
