Public commenter urges removal of permanent pitching mound, suggests 50-plus softball nights

Sean Fletcher, a resident who spoke during public comment, urged the Lake Forest City Community Service Commission to remove or replace a permanently installed raised pitching mound at a local baseball field, saying it prevents other uses and draws damaging e-bike activity. "I would ask the city to either remove the mound or get something lighter that could be moved and stored when the field is not being used for baseball," Fletcher said.
Fletcher told commissioners that the mound sits at a 50-foot distance used by slow-pitch softball and cricket, and that many lower-division teams do not use a raised mound. He also asked the city to pilot a 50-plus night for softball at the sports park so older residents can play pickup games without committing to formal teams, and invited attendees to the Clean Lake Forest event on Sept. 19 at Pittsford Park starting at 8 AM.
Vice Chair said she would speak with Little League coaches about responsibilities for moving and storing the mound, and staff reported conflicting information: Little League representatives told staff the mound is locked and stored, but several commissioners and residents said they had recently seen it left in place. The commission asked staff to follow up and report back.
