Trustee asks to delay library book purchases for board and public review

"I just wanted to see if we could move the approval of the library book purchases ... to either pause, for review or to have it purchased or to approve it at our next board meeting," the trustee said, noting they had not received a notification about the posted list. District staff replied the library book list was posted 30 days prior per board policy and said purchasing deadlines might require a purchase order be submitted the following day to count in the current fiscal year.
Board staff said librarians had worked on the list for months and the district could work with publishers if substitutions were needed. Trustees agreed to pull the item for the April 24 meeting to allow additional review and staff agreed to improve communications about future book postings to the public and the board.
