Shelly Richardson, the Council's executive director, said staff will begin work on the next State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) and announced a public input session scheduled for May 28, 2026, in Rockford. Richardson recommended establishing an ad hoc SPIL writing committee and discussed involving Centers for Independent Living directors in the Council's August retreat to support the writing process.
Richardson also noted plans to shift advisory-group meeting dates later in the month to allow for more accurate reporting numbers and referenced coordination with Region V SILCs on virtual training offerings. The Council did not formalize membership of the proposed SPIL writing committee during the May 6 meeting; Richardson raised the topic for planning and outreach.
