Students report improvements; consultant cites district behavior gains

The student survey showed gains across four summary indexes — connectedness, learning, environment and overall experience — and Darren said the district saw improvement on every student item this year. "This is phenomenal for a survey where 5,000 students took the survey," he told the board while walking through percentile comparisons and percent‑change calculations.
Darren highlighted specific question‑level improvements (for example, students saying they can talk to teachers outside of class, and teachers explaining material in ways students understand) and flagged distracting peer behaviors as the single biggest barrier to learning for 4th–8th graders. He recommended the board use site‑by‑site drill‑downs to target interventions where needed.
