Bo Acker told the Shandaken Planning Board on June 10 that he wants to build a seasonal "dry cabin" on a parcel he owns near a stream, describing it as a small, day‑use structure with no plumbing and no intention to rent or operate commercially. "It's simply I would like to call it a hunting fishing cabin for when I'm in the country with my son," he said.
A discussion with the board focused on site constraints and flood risk. A board member noted the required setbacks and floodplain limits; the applicant said his structure would be about 84 feet from the stream and that the site is outside the mapped floodway, and that he has a survey and an elevation certificate prepared by Don Brewer. The board advised that a composting toilet could be considered if necessary.
The board set a public hearing for the application on July 8 at 7:00 p.m. and asked staff to complete the short environmental assessment form (SEAF) Part 2, confirm whether referrals (such as to the county) are required, and publish notice. The applicant emphasized the structure would be for his personal use only and "never for any other use."
