La Porte ISD honors students and staff; student urges policy change on Honors Distinction

During the April 14 meeting the La Porte ISD Board of Trustees recognized district students and staff for achievements across academics, career and technical education, athletics and campus leadership. The board highlighted participants in SkillsUSA, DECA, TAFE and the Texas High School Welding Series, and noted La Porte High School powerlifting student Samantha Gilder as the school’s first-ever state medalist.
The board also heard public comment from La Porte High School student Dylan Thatcher, who asked trustees to consider policy changes to the district’s Honors Distinction process. Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson introduced several administrators who will begin roles in the 2026–2027 school year; those appointments were announced during the Superintendent’s Report.
