La Porte ISD honors coaches, students and corporate and Rotary donations

La Porte ISD trustees recognized student performances, honored two coaches for recent athletic achievements and thanked Braskem for a $5,000 donation and the Rotary Club of La Porte for over $54,000 in support for 2025–2026.
The La Porte Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized student and staff achievements, and community partners during its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting.
Board President Jeff Martin and trustees heard a performance from Bayshore Elementary students led by Music Teacher Sarah Vargo. The board honored Coach Joey Stewart for leading the La Porte High School Water Polo program to a district runner-up finish, a bi-area championship and the program's most wins in history. Coach Kevin Berneathy was recognized for guiding the Bulldogs football team to a third consecutive district championship and a second straight undefeated season; he was named District 11-5A Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Touchdown Club of Houston Coach of the Year.
The board also acknowledged community partners: Braskem made a $5,000 donation to the district’s career and technical education programs, and the Rotary Club of La Porte was recognized for contributing more than $54,000 to students and staff for the 2025–2026 school year.
