Seneca Falls board adopts negative declaration, sets public hearing for nearly $17M water project

Town engineers presented parts 2 and 3 of the environmental assessment form for a multi-part water improvement project covering treatment-plant and distribution system upgrades, including main replacements and loops to improve system functionality. The engineers reported no indication of more than small environmental impacts and recommended a finding of no significant adverse environmental impact.
The board voted to accept parts 2 and 3 and to adopt a negative declaration. The engineer provided an estimated project cost of $16,995,000 and said the town plans to apply for a $5,000,000 grant and low-interest funding for the remainder. "The numbers, which we're gonna talk in a minute, ... is $16,995,000 and we're applying for the grama which I believe is a $5,000,000 grant," the presenting engineer said.
The board also approved a resolution to schedule a public hearing under Town Law section 202-b to solicit public comment on the proposed improvements before the project advances toward final design and funding decisions.
