Diamondville council accepts Robert Sawaya resignation; council to advertise vacancy

The Diamondville Town Council accepted a resignation from Councilmember Robert Sawaya at its May 4 meeting. Mayor Eric Backman read the resignation letter and the governing body voted to accept it.
At the same meeting Mayor Backman appointed Councilmember Nicole Petersen as mayor pro tem; there were no objections and Petersen was elected to the temporary post. Council members directed that Robert Sawaya be removed from all Town of Diamondville banking accounts and replaced with Mayor pro tem Nicole Petersen. Councilmember Sherrol Sloan moved, seconded by Councilmember Nicole Petersen, to advertise for the vacant council seat expiring Dec. 31, 2026; the motion carried unanimously.
