Deputy Superintendent Dr. Kelly O'Sullivan asked the board to approve a request to the Texas Education Agency to excuse district closures from Jan. 26–28, 2026, under the state's waiver process for bad weather days. The request follows severe winter weather in late January. Mark Tucker moved and Scott Baird seconded approval of the waiver application; the board voted 5–0 to authorize the district to apply for the TEA waiver.
Board approval permits Lake Dallas ISD to seek TEA action that would allow those dates to be treated as excused closures without requiring makeup days. The vote was recorded as unanimous among trustees present, with two members absent.
