Lake Dallas Independent School District trustees opened their Feb. 16 meeting with multiple student and staff recognitions highlighting regional and national achievements.
Jennifer Bryant, principal at Shady Shores Elementary, introduced four student members of the Superintendent Student Advisory Council who will advise district leadership; Mikaela Pyle, LDHS band director, recognized a slate of LDHS musicians who placed in TMEA Region and Area ensembles, including Enzo Fernandez, who qualified for All-State. "All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can achieve," Laura Jenkins, LDHS choir director, said when recognizing Helen Stratton's selection to TMEA SSC All-State. Dr. Colleen Grindle noted that Nathan Gonzalez received a Supervised Agricultural Experience grant funded by RaboBank through the National FFA Organization; his project will be a 14-foot welding trailer to launch a mobile welding business. The grant was selected from 1,468 national submissions with nine Texas recipients.
District staff were also recognized: Jason Starr was acknowledged for being named a SAM Labs SAMbassador to support STEAM and coding work, and Superintendent Dr. Kristin N. Brown announced 12 employees named February Teachers and Employees of the Month across campuses and departments. A video highlighting the honorees was shown during executive session. The recognitions give the board a chance to highlight student opportunities and staff contributions ahead of the spring semester.
