Board approves multiple athletics cooperative applications, tables girls flag football request

The Chazy Union Free School District Board of Education on Jan. 14 approved several NYSPHSAA Section VII cooperative team applications and authorized the Superintendent and Board President to sign the paperwork.
Board members unanimously approved combining agreements to merge Chazy Central Rural School teams with Beekmantown Central School District for varsity and modified girls and boys outdoor track and with Plattsburgh High School for varsity girls and boys lacrosse. Board President Craig Giroux presided over the motions; Dan Bernard moved approval of the varsity track application and Mr. Demers seconded. The motions specified that there will be no additional district cost beyond routine league administrative fees.
The board tabled a combining application with Beekmantown for girls flag football; Tim Howley moved to table the application, which carried unanimously, so the district will not act on that request at this meeting. The approvals and the tabled motion were recorded by District Clerk Kait Breton and entered into the minutes.
"...authorize the Superintendent and Board President to sign the application, with no additional cost to the District beyond league administrative fees," the motion language stated when the varsity track and lacrosse cooperatives were approved.
The decisions affect athletic scheduling and student eligibility for the remainder of the 2024–25 school year; the motions as presented did not identify additional financial commitments beyond administrative fees.
