The public-comment period at the Aug. 5 Common Council meeting brought a range of neighborhood and citywide concerns to the dais.
Speakers raised an array of housing and social-service issues: Tom Stern and tenant organizers urged council intervention in an ejectment by INHS that they said threatens a tenant's Section 8 eligibility; Tula Mooney called for more transparency about municipal relationships with INHS. Transit and homelessness were also raised—Zach Wynne asked the council to advocate for restoration of 9 and 10 PM Route 14 trips and said reduced Code Blue funding at the county level will hurt the local response to homelessness. Multiple speakers sought traffic-safety fixes: Anne Sullivan, George McGonigal and others described dangerous driver speeds on major inbound roads, requested city signage and sidewalks before school starts, and asked council to inspect problem sites in person.
Bridal Jackson and other civically engaged residents reported the Charter Revision Commission has fallen below quorum and urged mayoral appointments to complete a line-by-line charter review. Councilmembers thanked speakers, acknowledged the issues raised, and asked staff for follow-up and budgetary considerations where relevant.
