The La Vega Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Feb. 28, 2026 to approve a resolution declining to adopt the policy described in SB 11 of the 89th Legislative Session.
Trustee Henry C. Jennings made the motion to decline adoption of the SB 11 policy; Rev. Larry Carpenter seconded. Board members Rev. Larry Carpenter, Randy Devorsky, Henry C. Jennings, Raymond Koon and Myron Ridge were polled individually and each recorded a "For" vote. The minutes record the action as: "The Board of Trustees approved the Resolution declining to adopt policy SB 11of the 89th Legislative Session." The board took the vote during a special called meeting that convened at 11:00 a.m.
The item was listed in the minutes as "Resolution Regarding Period of Prayer." The district superintendent, Dr. Sharon M. Shields, led the opening pledges before the board considered the resolution.
