Resident urges selling underused park to fund new downtown pool; board says downtown site under study

Jean Gilroy, a resident speaking during privilege of the floor, urged the board to consider selling Fittsons Park to help the town’s budget and proposed using proceeds to build a pool closer to downtown so children could walk there.
"I think it's time to consider selling Fittsons Park. It sits on a very valuable corner lot...I would love to see a housing development in that same area," Jean Gilroy (S5) said, arguing that the park is little used and that proceeds could be used to build a more accessible pool in Seneca Falls. The Chair (S3) responded that the board has been exploring downtown options, has engaged MRB and architects, and is pursuing grants and property purchases at 2 and 10 Falls Street to create a town park with a pool. "We're working on trying to get some grants for that right now," Chair (S3) said.
Board members warned that parks cannot simply be closed without the proper approvals and that site size, ownership and access (sidewalks) are constraints. The Chair said staff will provide diagrams and further updates to the public as planning progresses.
