SILC schedules Aug. 5–6 retreat on governance; IL T&TA to present SILC 101
Summary
The council agreed that the August 5 retreat will focus on board governance and Robert's Rules of Order and that IL T&TA's Paula McElwee will present virtually on August 6 to deliver SILC 101 training and answer questions.
At its June 24 meeting, the Statewide Independent Living Council directed staff to plan an August 5 retreat focused on board governance and Robert's Rules of Order, followed by a SILC 101 presentation on August 6. Rachael Mellen suggested "training on Robert’s Rules of Order and perhaps a refresher on roles and responsibilities of a board member," and the council agreed that those topics should anchor the retreat schedule.
Executive Director Shelly Richardson recommended a recorded SILC 101 presentation from the Independent Living Training & Technical Assistance Center (IL T&TA) as a useful resource. The minutes state that ‘‘Paula McElwee from IL T&TA will present virtually to discuss and answer questions’’ on August 6; the minutes do not specify start times, locations or compensation for speakers, which staff were asked to explore.
