At the public‑comment portion of the Town of Shandaken meeting, Jean Davis, a former Phoenicia School teacher and longtime member of the now‑closed Shandaken Reformed Church, presented the board with a $18,420 check designated for parks and recreation.
"I present to you a check for $18,420," Jean Davis said during public comment, explaining the amount came from the congregation’s tithe after the church property sale concluded this past February. Supervisor Manfield and several board members thanked Davis and suggested arranging a photograph of the presentation.
Board discussion afterward touched on the summer recreation program: one board member urged restoring longer off‑site field trips (previously including Manhattan visits) once finances allow; board staff noted the recent gift may enable expanded programming this season. The board did not tie the gift to specific capital projects during the meeting; follow‑up was left to Parks & Recreation leadership.
