The Lake Travis Independent School District Board of Trustees voted 7-0 on April 15 to renew the district's 2026-2030 District of Innovation (DOI) plan, a designation that preserves local control over calendar, staffing and certain instructional decisions.
"A MOTION was made by Trustee Rob Aird and seconded by Trustee Phillip Davis to approve the 2026-2030 District of Innovation Plan Renewal, as presented," the meeting minutes state. The renewal complies with Texas Education Code §§ 12A.006-.007, which require a DOI plan to be renewed at least every five years.
Board materials presented the DOI renewal as a tool to "tailor its calendar, staffing, and instructional models" to local needs while maintaining state accountability. Trustee Rob Aird moved the motion; Trustee Phillip Davis seconded, and the vote was recorded as 7-0 in favor. The Board did not record any amendment to the plan during the meeting.
The renewal means the district will retain the local flexibilities it has used previously. The Board plans no further action at this meeting; any future contract or operational changes under the DOI would be communicated in subsequent packets or meetings.
