The La Porte Independent School District Board of Trustees convened a special meeting on Jan. 5, 2026, in the district administration building board room to review the proposed 2026–2027 instructional calendar. Board President Jeff Martin called the meeting to order at 5:06 PM and confirmed a quorum; district leaders in attendance included Dr. Walter Jackson, superintendent; Julie Abram, deputy superintendent of academics; Dr. Bobby Martinez, deputy superintendent of support services; and Stacey McDowell, chief financial officer. The meeting was livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel.
The board opened a public comment period in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act; "There were no public comments," the minutes record. Board members then engaged with district administrators about the instructional calendar for the coming school year. The minutes state the trustees "used this opportunity to ask questions and engaged in discussion with the administrative team regarding the 2026-2027 Instructional Calendar." No motion or vote on the calendar is recorded in the meeting minutes. With no further business, President Jeff Martin adjourned the meeting at 5:44 PM.
