Seneca Falls foundation and SFDC report $620,000 in first-round façade grants

Judy Wenzel presented an update to the Seneca Falls Town Board on Nov. 6 about a foundation partnership with the Seneca Falls Development Corporation and Insight Architecture to launch a downtown façade/storefront grant program.
"This initiative fully funded by the foundation provides streamlined financial assistance for building business owners to enhance their exterior storefronts," Wenzel said. She reported that eight of 14 projects applied in the program's first round received awards and estimated total downtown investment at about $620,000.
Wenzel named several awardees and projects in progress, including improvements at 17 Bridge Street, 37-39 Fall Street, 41-43 Fall Street, 73 Fall Street, 81-83 Fall Street, 86 Fall Street and 91 Fall Street, and the King Block on 90-100 Falls Street. She said selection factors included visual impact, storefront occupancy and business longevity, and credited local contractors for on-site work and community buy-in.
The board heard the presentation during public comment and did not adopt a related resolution that night; Wenzel encouraged residents to visit downtown to see completed projects.
