The Town Board held a public hearing on the Community Development Block Grant micro‑enterprise program and heard a recap from the Seneca Falls Development Corporation. “We were awarded 210,000 on April 2023, of which 180,000 could be used for project awards, and the SMDC could retain 30,000 for grant administration oversight and management,” said Greg, director with the SFDC, who said the corporation instead passed the full award through to awardees to maximize local benefit.
Greg told the board that SFDC opened applications in summer 2023, received 12 applications and funded eight projects; six recipients qualified under low‑to‑moderate income guidelines and two grantees created at least one full‑time equivalent job. He said the first round filled two previously empty downtown storefronts and “the state was very pleased with our administration efforts and the outcome.” The board asked about outreach; Greg said promotions will again use the town and SFDC websites, press and social media and estimated a new round could open in about two to three months.
