Board signals intent to include Summer Program in next year’s budget amid nurse shortage

On May 7 Superintendent TheriJo Snyder told the board the district could not hold the Summer Program this summer because there is currently no school nurse on staff. Snyder presented Summer Program enrollment figures and the proposed daily schedule but said staffing shortages and capital-work expectations complicate running the program this year.
Following discussion, President Amy Garretson said the consensus of the board was to include a Summer Program line in next year’s budget. Administrators noted summer staffing and enrollment remain uncertain: one summer appointment (Driver Education instructor Jordan Rhodes) was approved contingent on enrollment. Ten PreK packets have been returned so far, with May 16 listed as the return deadline.
