The Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School District Board of Education voted on Jan. 15 to pursue a third‑party review of a proposed water‑treatment capital project to shorten the district's expected state review window and hasten bidding.
Superintendent TheriJo Snyder told the board that the district met with engineering firm BCA to evaluate three options: build a new system, modify the existing system, or coordinate with the Cherry Valley municipal water system. She said the water system is complex and that the New York State Department of Education review commonly takes "about 18-22 weeks," so the district is pursuing a third‑party review to try to bring bids forward. "The third party review will cost about $26,000 and is aidable so after aid the cost would then be around $5,000," Snyder said.
Snyder also said grants tied to water projects are expected to become available beginning in February 2026 and that DEC involvement will likely be required. The superintendent told the board the overall effort is "looking like a 2-3 year process," and the board decided to move ahead with the third‑party review so bids could potentially be issued in early–mid May rather than late June.
The board did not adopt a specific construction plan at the meeting; members approved only the review step and asked administration to return with next steps and any required funding motions once the review completes.
