Director of special education urges review of aide deployment, reports training and 504 activity

Kerry Adams, the district’s Director of Special Education, told the board that staff recently attended training to learn more about Individualized Education Programs and that annual review meetings will begin in April at CVES. She said 504 meetings are continuing and that she is reviewing how Teacher Aides and Assistants are deployed across grade levels.
Adams said she is considering shifting some aide support from middle/high school to elementary grades to use those positions more effectively. The transcript reports: “Mrs. Adams is really taking a look at whether Teacher Aides and Teacher Assistants are helpful in the middle/high school. She is thinking that maybe we could utilize them less in the middle/high school and use them more in the elementary more effectively.” The board received the report; no personnel changes were directed at this meeting beyond general discussion.
