The Lindsay ISD Board voted to adopt a statutory resolution declining to implement a daily period of prayer or reading of religious text under Section 25.0823(a-1).
Superintendent Steve Cope presented the resolution and told the board that both campuses already allow students a moment of silence and that legal counsel had advised against adopting a mandatory daily prayer period because it could invite litigation. Board member Kelly Dunn moved to approve the resolution declining the prayer period; Corey Anderle seconded and the motion passed 4-0.
The minutes record the board's procedural vote but do not include legal counsel's written opinion or a longer legal analysis in the meeting record.
